Good evening, good afternoon, good morning.
It’s my pleasure to introduce you to the debut issue of The Weekly Subdimension. The entire backstory is long and arduous, but suffice it to say that after years of work, millions of dollars, and failure after failure, I’ve finally invented a device that is able to communicate with parallel dimensions. Well, one dimension. And it’s only one way communication. But! We can hear what they are saying. This means that our version of humanity has just opened its first window into another plane of existence.
At this stage, it sounds cooler than it really is. I’ve got this device on constantly, basically using it as a radio, I’m hearing these wild stories and recording them as well as I can. The best I can work it out, I’ve tuned into some kind of other worldly media channel. It sounds almost like old time radio with the serial dramas and stories. Well, I think they’re fictional, they all are to us, anyway.
As a scientist, it’s my responsibility to share my findings and submit them to peer review. I know that there aren’t any others in my profession who have gone as far down this rabbit hole as I have, so I submit it to the public at large. If, under review, these reports seem other worldly, if they seem like a world that couldn’t be our own, than we’ve explored a new land. If they seem natural enough to be our own creation, well then, we’ve gained some perspective on ourselves as well.
The first handful of posts collect a few stories that I’m fortunately picking up at the beginning. Howard Hunt is a savvy, adventurous, detective, with a twisted past. Tornops and Vork are a couple of aliens with more opinions than Statler and Waldorf. And the last story is about a man who thinks he’s at the end of his rope, until his world is turned upside down.
I’ll post the next installments every Monday, after I can transcribe them. Every Wednesday, I’ll give a personal update on what I’m learning, listening to this device nearly twenty four hours a day. On Fridays, I’ll give you a chance to chime in and I’ll post some answers to any mail I get.
Your friend in any universe,
Dr. Ira Rottcodd
